Diabetes care is coming to Walgreens.

The nation’s largest drugstore chain plans a pilot program offering chronic-disease care in its Take Care walk-in health clinics.

Initially, clinics in four regions will be involved and Type 2 diabetes care will be offered first.
Walgreens Chief Executive Greg Wasson declined to specify where the pilot program will run.

Locally, Walgreens has walk-in clinics at its stores at 2323 Charles St. and 3336 11th St. in Rockford, 5065 Hononegah Road in Roscoe and 230 Chrysler Drive in Belvidere.

There are 345 Take Care clinics in Walgreens stores in 19 states including Illinois. Until now, they’ve mostly focused on routine health problems rather than chronic care.
