The Winnebago County Health Department said it began giving H1N1 vaccine shots on Monday and will give shots today to health-care workers and first responders.

Pregnant women, small children, and health-care and emergency-services workers are among the target groups identified as most at risk in the H1N1 flu outbreak.

The county received 500 doses of injectable vaccine and 1,500 doses of nasal spray Friday. The shots are available free of charge.
