ROCKFORD — The Winnebago County Health Department has scheduled three appointment-based H1N1 vaccination clinics for January. All forms of the vaccine, including a limited supply of the nasal spray, will be made available at these sites.
The dates and sites are:
* 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Heartland Church, 1280 S. Alpine Road (Alpine and Newburg roads).
* 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Hilander Village Shopping Center, 4860 Hononegah Road, Roscoe.
* Saturday, Jan. 9, at a west side location to be announced.
Appointments for those clinics are available for all Winnebago County residents and must be made through the appointment line at 800-649-2381. Residents may call the number 24 hours a day to reserve their vaccination time.
Children 9 or younger who received their first dose before Nov. 19 may receive their second dose.
The Health Department has offered the following tips for people participating in their H1N1 clinics:
* Prepare to expose the uppermost part of your arm, near the shoulder.
* Vaccinations for H1N1 given by the Health Department are free, so Medicare cards are not required.
* When bringing a child for their second shot, bring their vaccination card with the previous dosage information, if possible.
* People with allergies to eggs should not receive the vaccine.
* Allow at least 15 minutes for your visit.
More than 21,000 county residents already have received an H1N1 vaccination.
